PROJECT 1
Case Study–Assessing Daylight& Thermal Comfort at Modern Houses
Project Brief
In this project, we were to group in a group of 6 and together we will have to do a case study on the daylighting and thermal comfort issues in modern houses for which our group we have chosen a semi-detached house in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia and we have conducted a data collection based on the daylighting and thermal comfort issue. After that, we have proposed solutions to comply with those issues.

SECONDARY DATA
Next, we use website and app like Meteoblue and Sun Earth Tool to get our secondary data like windrose and sunpath diagram to further understand our site condition for daylighting and thermal comfort.
DAYLIGHTING ANALYSIS
We also conducted a daylighting reading measuring the lux at a chosen for which our chosen space is the master bedroom and we measure the lux of the room at three different times (9AM, 1PM, 6PM). We have also used Revit to come out with sun path diagrams of the house to determine the amount of sunlight received at a different times of the year. We have concluded that master bedroom has bad daylighting based on the readings showing that space have actually an unbalance daylighting.
THERMAL COMFORT ANALYSIS
Thermal comfort reading of the house is also conducted for both the ground floor and first floor at every space. By using the contrast diagram also from the daylighting analysis, we can also know bedroom 3 will have a thermal comfort problem considering that in the morning most of the sunlight will shine into bedroom 3, however, according to the windrose diagram, bedroom 3 receives the least amount of wind blown from the Southeast direction. Therefore, without good ventilation, this results in a stuffy room throughout the day for bedroom 3.
DAYLIGHTING SOLUTION
Therefore, we have come out with several solutions which can improve the daylighting of the master bedroom.
THERMAL COMFORT SOLUTION
We have also come out with several solutions for improving the thermal comfort of bedroom 3.
A2 POSTER
At last, all our findings and solutions were to be composed in two A2 poster.
REFLECTION
DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
I was able to put theories of learning what is daylighting and thermal comfort also the solutions for better daylighting and thermal comfort into this assignment.
CITIZENSHIP AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES
I was able to give out my opinions on the assignment but also to listen and understand my groupmates' opinions and look for a middle ground to solve our problems.
THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILL
I was able to think of what is the best solution that is the most suitable for this modern house and came out with three solutions for daylighting and thermal comfort.
